What's Included

K-201 (Intermediate)

This is a 2-day intermediate course taught on a variety of rivers in Middle and East TN. After graduating from our K-101 course, take this class for a smooth transition into the realm of river paddling. This is Class II and III whitewater.

This course features an evening 2½ hour indoor heated pool rolling training. Rolling is the safest and fastest self-rescue technique available for whitewater paddlers. Then we will head to the river to do some camping and paddling.

Skills You Will Learn:

• How to have a “bomb proof” roll
• River Progression
• River Reading Skills
• Paddling Techniques
• Playing on the River

Items You Need To Bring:

• Camping Gear
• Food for the Weekend (we may not be near restaurants-check with instructor)
• Water Bottle(s) and Waterproof Snacks
• Bathing Suit/Board Shorts and Synthetic Under-layers if its below 85 degrees
• Sunscreen and Sunglasses (Eyeglass Strap so you don’t lose them)
• Small Dry Bag

• Solo/Tandem Kayaks
• Helmets
• Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
• Paddles
• Directions and Map to Lesson(s)
• ACA Certified Whitewater Kayak Instructors

Prerequisites: K-101 or equivalent. Good physical condition is important to ensure an enjoyable class; whitewater kayaking can be strenuous! The minimum age for K-201 is 12 years; children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Summary: Weeknight rolling session followed by a weekend of whitewater paddling. Location will be determined by what rivers are running that weekend. You will automatically be emailed a detailed itinerary of the outing, skill instruction dates, as well as directions. We will take care of the rest!

We offer guided and unguided trips here in Middle Tennessee, for every ability level and outdoor interest-from backpacking and climbing to canoeing and kayaking and caving and fishing to name a few. Our goal is to teach people skills to safely enjoy the outdoors and to care for the outdoors in a responsible and knowledgeable manner.
