PLEASE NOTE: While the tours at Algonkian are appropriate for beginners, we do spend half the time paddling up river against a modest current since we are on a river. People with little or no paddling experience may find that keeping their kayak going where they want while paddling against even a modest current frustrating. If you have little or no paddling experience, you may want to consider a tour at one of the other parks such as Pohick Bay or Fountain Head since those tours are on a bay or reservoir and generally don?t have to contend with current like you find on a river.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!
As with any exercise it is not advisable to eat a heavy meal just prior to attending your paddle tour. Canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding involves constant movement. Instructor(s) will lead warm-up activities at the beginning of the event to engage the body for the activity; this may be conducted on the water pending the activity.
