What's Included

Class Description: A five day workshop that explores how different environments affect what and how we write. Each day includes a hike to a different location to write: Little Toots Park, Art Park, Sulphur Cave, and the Bookstore. At the end of the week a compilation of work will be put together in a chap book for each participant to pick up from the depot. This writing workshop will compliment the morning photography class. One week of classes from 12:30am - 4:30pm is $140. Teacher: Dagny McKinley author of 5 published books and many freelance articles finds her home nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Steamboat Springs. Writing has been a part of McKinley’s life since she was a small child. She found healing through writing and hiking and continues to pursue those passions vigorously. During her down time, you can find her lost in a book or magazine, regenerating her spirit through the words of others, at her computer or exploring mountains, streams and lakes. What to Wear: Comfortable fitting clothes are appropriate for this camp. A small bag is also a great idea for an extra change of clothes, water bottle and a snack. Snacks: Parents please send children to camp with a dry snack and water. Snacks and beverages will be consumed during “snack-time.” Children staying the full day will also need to bring a healthy sack lunch to consume during the lunch break.

About This Organizer

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council was founded in May of 1972 by Eleanor Bliss, Carol Finnoff and the community of Steamboat Springs as a center for arts and humanities in the Yampa Valley. The Train Depot in which the Arts Council is housed received National Register of Historic Places designation in 1978.   Also known as “The Art Depot” this facility contains the “Baggage Room” a multi-use and performance arts space, an Artist Member Gallery, and main visual arts gallery.

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is devoted to supporting and promoting arts and culture in the Yampa Valley, through the planning and production of arts and humanities programs and initiatives that have a positive educational and cultural impact on our community.

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, supported by our annual members, audiences and local businesses. Large support has been provided by private donation, the City of Steamboat Springs, and regional and national grants.
