Preparing for English 8 is an exploration of the foundations of our departmental program, including reading comprehension strategies, composition writing, and implicit mechanics instruction. Along with the investigation of deeper questions based on current events articles and selected short stories, students will solidify their brainstorming abilities, written/expressive language skills, composition work at the sentence and paragraph level, and - of course - their ability to read the text and think critically about it. Students will produce 3 pieces of substantive writing: a full-body paragraph, a short essay, and a longer essay, to act as a portfolio of resources before moving into the 8th grade. These resources are the very same ones utilized in the English 8 classroom and will aid students in their transition to fall coursework. Location: MS 220
