Bicyclists, enjoy the spectacular beauty and challenge of the Blue Ridge and experience small-town hospitality at the Tour de Mountains Saturday, June 11, 2016. A 20-mile short ride offers the novice a taste of mountain cycling. We heard from a number of riders who claimed last year's Century with 100 miles of pavement and over 10,000 feet of climb was a bit much. In rerouting the ride to include the Farmers Fish Camp Bridge, we could only wring out 9,600 feet of climb. However, we were able to still include that slog up Doughton Mountain that crests near the highest peak in the county and we managed to also retain the long climb up from the river on Nile Road. You won't be disappointed. The new bridge at Farmers Fish Camp is finished and it is real treat for riders and all but the popular 35-mile route cross this bridge. Our Metric Century and our Century rides both have been altered to include the new Farmers Fish Camp Bridge. Enjoy a breakfast of ham biscuits, fruit, cookies, coffee and drinks before the ride. Whenever you finish, a spaghetti lunch that includes meat-lover and meatless vegetarian options as well as salad will be waiting. SAG support is with you start to finish. Every 10-15 miles expect stocked rest stops manned by smiling volunteers. Learn more at TourdeMountains.com or contact Alleghany Wellness Center, 508 Collins Rd., Sparta NC 28675. Phone 336-372-2944.
