This two-evening intensive class is a great way to introduce yourself to the basics of the violin or viola in a group setting with an expert instructor. This introductory class is designed for beginning adults of any age. Students learn parts of the instrument, playing posture with and without the bow, use of the bow on open strings, musical rhythms done by ear, short musical exercises in solo and group playing, and the possibility of adding fingers to create additional sounding notes. (While the class is conducted on violin, potential violists are welcome, as the transfer of skills is addressed.)
Please note: No musical reading skills are necessary and will likely not be introduced in the introductory course. For more information, please contact Patrick LeStrange, Strings Department Chair, at (202) 686-8000 x1110 or email@example.com.
