Description

We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Photographer and Costume Artist Mimi Haddon and Movement and Fiber Artist Cody Brunelle-Potter collaborate on a series of sculptural movement workshops at The Camera Obscura Art Lab. Using soft sculpture and costume to activate a sense of physical transformation, participants will collaborate in accessing myth and psychology through intuitive movement and gesture. How can one gain hidden knowledge by embodying and moving in unfamiliar form? We will be working to create narrative through the discoveries that we find in the life dances that we create in individual moments and group engagements. No dance experience required. Materials will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

Photographer and Costume Artist, Mimi Haddon, is thrilled to be continuing her residency at The Camera Obscura Art Lab. Her work is informed by the potential to access personal myth and story through invented creatures and physically abstract forms. Through her work with Palace Costume she has worked with some of the most talented dancers in Los Angeles and beyond. She has collaborated extensively with Cody Brunelle-Potter throughout this past year and is excited to share the magic that their work has discovered with a wider audience at The Camera this winter.

Cody Brunelle-Potter is a non binary dance artist in Los Angeles. They began their dance and performance career in NYC, where they were a dancer and Assistant Director for In-Sight Dance Company, a nonprofit service organization in Queens. Since moving to Los Angeles, they have had the pleasure of working with WhyteBerg, Mollie Wolf, Heidi Duckler, Robin Conrad, Invertigo Dance Company, Rosanna Gamson World Wide and Iris Company. They began collaborating with Mimi Haddon earlier this year and can’t wait to explore the place where fiber art and dance meet to open up new ideas and ways of thinking about performance as sculpture.

The Camera Obscura Art Lab hosts six artists-in-residence annually, and offers workshops with a changing roster of residents and teaching artists. Here you can learn dance moves, polish your writing, sew a seam, check out artists at work and find a creative community!
