Prerequisites for lifeguard training include:Students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class, students must pass a pre-course swimming skills test prior to taking lifeguarding courses, The American Red Cross offers the following course options for Lifeguard training: Lifeguarding: Blended learning - This option is for those training for the first time or for those whose certifications have expired. This course is the Blended Learning course format (19.5 hours in person, 7.5 hours online). The pre-requisites for this course include being 15 years of age and having passed the pre-course swimming skills test. The online training portion must be completed prior to the first day of class.
Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Please plan to complete the initial online lessons of your training at least two days prior to your first on-site skills session which is scheduled on April 9 with a lunch around 12pm. Each day will follow the same timeline, if there is time leftover, participants will be allowed to leave early. The more prepared participants are when they arrive to the on-site skills sessions, the faster the course will proceed. After registration and prior to the class, a follow up email with the online portion will be sent. If you do not receive this email two weeks prior, please email parksandrec@san-marcos.net
