About this event
Activity Organizer: Karen Allendoerfer Email: karen.allendoerfer@basisindependent.com Dates: 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month Times: 4:00 PM–5:00 PM Location: Room 344 Grades: 9–12 Cost: $90 Description: The purpose of Neurodiversity Outreach is to raise awareness about neurodiversity in the BISV community. Our club meetings include neurodiversity presentations and volunteer service projects. Our lectures and speakers will educate our students on neurodiversity and the volunteer opportunities will give them real-life experience in advocacy. These opportunities come from organizations like Peninsula Volunteers Inc. and Friends of Children with Special Needs – all of which are safe and carefully selected. All meetings will have activities planned; when there is not a guest speaker, the club members will prepare presentations, play Kahoot! games, and have discussions. The neurodiversity movement champions community inclusiveness, outreach, and understanding. Alongside academic development, it’s extremely valuable for us to develop as community-oriented individuals; moreover, Neurodiversity Outreach will give students leadership roles and broaden our horizons. Whether a student’s interests are in STEM or humanities, any passion or skill set can help spread positivity and inclusiveness for neurodiverse individuals. Last year we worked with the Leadership Club at BISV to have Neurodiversity Week; through our club activitiesand school-wide event, we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback–students find meaning, growth, and value in joining Neurodiversity Outreach.
