Faster Freestyle/Open Water Skills & Drills with coach Karlyn Pipes
Do you want to improve your FREESTYLE and have the BEST open water or triathlon swim of your life? Then this workshop is perfect for you!
This SUPER FUN clinic will start with an enthusiastic inspirational talk to get the students excited and engaged. Karlyn will then follow up with an interactive group discussion outlining the techniques she will be teaching in the workshop.
Once we enter the water, Karlyn will begin with a mini Faster Freestyle workshop designed to help the student swim straighter and waste less energy.
Then the focus will shift to skills and strategies used in the open water including: warming up, starting position and effective breathing techniques for all types of conditions. We will then work on sighting, drafting, evasive moves, bouy turning, pacing and much more!
The event will conclude with an open water relay event to test out the new skills!
BIO: Karlyn was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2015 for setting 233 FINA Masters World records (33 still stand!). However, Karlyn is equally amazing as a stroke technique coach who loves helping swimmers of all ages and abilities learn how to swim faster with less effort. IMPORTANT! If you get cold easily, please consider bringing your wetsuit. Even if you do not wear it, it is nice to have the wetsuit as an option.
Faster Freestyle/Open Water workshop schedule:
45-minutes dry to discuss techniques, strategies and all things OPEN WATER!
2 hours in the water with a mini Faster Freestyle workshop, followed by open water skills and drills designed to help you swim faster, straighter and smarter!
15 min for Q and A and to wrap up
Three hours total
Here are some suggestions to help prepare for this event:
Arrive early: Arrive least 15 minutes prior to the start. If you have never been to this location, please allow even more time due to traffic, getting lost etc.
What to bring: An open mind, water bottle, snacks, towel, goggles. If you get cold easy be SURE TO BRING YOUR WETSUIT.
