If you wish to complete the 2015 Susan G. Komen 5K/10K “Race for a Cure” and need a little help getting in shape for this event, this program is for you!  The 5K/10K Class is great for anyone that wants to learn how to train for and finish a 5K (or 10K) with strong and with confidence!

The workouts will include various exercises geared toward developing general fitness, functional strength, and run form/fitness.  Workout activities will include a combination of strength training, cardio vascular activities, stretching, walking, running, and team building exercises.  The workouts will also be designed to help participants get started on a run fitness program and then learn how to incorporate fitness into their everyday life.  Each workout will offer beginner, intermediate and advanced-intermediate workout options.

CLASS FEATURES

 GROUP WORKOUTS

Tuesday: Run Boot Camp at McKinley Park, Sacramento

This program will include two workouts each week for the participants (see schedule below).  The mid-week/Wednesday workout will be a run focused boot camp where athletes will build strength, increase their cardiovascular capacity, and improve their functional movement.  In general, this will be a full-body workout that will also include some run/walk training.  For planning purposes, these workouts will be approximately 75 minutes.

Thurday:  Walk/Run Clinic @ American River College, Track

The second workout each week will be a run/walk clinic at the ARC Track.  At this meeting athletes will learn proper run form and technique.  In addition, this workout will include run form drills, run strenght drills, and a focuse workout

Saturday:  Walk/Run Workout McKinley Park

The third workout each week will be a coached walk/run workout on Saturday mornings.  These sessions are designed to help participants develop their endurance and stamina.  Each coached walk/run workout will have a specific focus and build in distance/duration as the program progresses.  For planning purposes, assume that the Sunday workouts will be approximately 75 minutes.

SUPPORT

Welcome Packet, training plans, discussion topics, e-coaching

In addition to the group exercise/workouts, each participant will receive a color Welcome Packet that will include informational on how to train for their event in addition to written training plans (beginner, intermediate, and intermediate-advanced).  The training plans will let each athlete know what to do every day throughout the 8-week program.

This program will also include discussions on fitness related topics (how to train by heart rate, sports nutrition/hydration, training fundamentals, race preparation, and more!).  These discussions will be conducted during the first 5-10 minutes of class meetings.  In addition, hand-outs for each discussion topic and also provide all necessary fitness equipment required to facilitate implementation of the weekly lesson plans.

E-coaching is included with this program.  So, if you have any questions about your training or miss a workout, simply e-mail your coach with any questions.

Water will be provided at each workout in addition to product samples/refreshments at selected workouts.  Also, restroom facilities will be available at every workout.
