First organized in 1975, the Run Around the Block 15K Road Race is one of the oldest races in Rhode Island as well as New England. The timed race is a hilly, winding run along mostly paved roads with a stretch of dirt road that appears twice during the route. It begins at Isaac's Corner near Fresh Pond and ends at Fred Benson Town Beach Pavilion where there will be food, drinks and a refreshing dip in the ocean available as well as bathroom and shower facilities. **the race course has been changed to accommodate the new finish line**
The 15K race is challenging as the mid-day start can be hot and the course is hilly. There are water stops provided along the route and signage to direct you along the country roads. The rural seaside views along the course are beautiful and a great contrast to the bustle of Old and New Harbors. The finish line at Fred Benson Town Beach is within sight of Old Harbor and the ferries to Rhode Island and Connecticut.
