The Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon is making a splash on the South Carolina coast next fall.

Registration opens on October 23, 2009 at 6 a.m. ET. Sign up early and you could get in for half off the half marathon price. Regular fees are $60 for the event, but the first 200 registrants will get in for only $30. Fees will be $36 for the next 200 participants and $42 for the remainder of the opening registration week, ending at midnight on October 29.

Take advantage of the registration deals to experience the heart of South Carolina's Grand Stand at the inaugural Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon Weekend. Whether you're looking for a destination race or want to see South Carolina in a new way, this race is the event for you.

More than 6,000 runners and walkers are expected to flock to the South Carolina coast to participate in the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon Weekend from October 22-24, 2010. Weekend goers can enjoy the white, sandy beaches and boardwalk of this coastal resort city for the perfect fall getaway.

"This is a key vacation destination in the U.S., and there really is no better way to showcase the city than with a walking or running tour through the area's highlights," said Robert Pozo, the race's founder and director. "Finishing on the newly built, paved boardwalk will give runners a feeling of paradise."

The half marathon course starts at Freestyle Music Park and continues around Coastal Grande, Grissom Parkway and Broadway at the Beach before heading east toward the ocean. Racers will head south on Ocean Boulevard and enter the south side of Myrtle Beach's boardwalk, finishing at Plyler Park. The Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon will be the first major event hosted on the brand new boardwalk, to be completed in June 2010.

In addition to the main half marathon event, there will also be a two-day health and fitness expo, a coastal 5K, a one-mile doggie dash and an 80-meter high heel run. The doggie dash and high heel run will both benefit the local Grand Strand Humane Society.
