Fishing for a Great August Race? Reel in the First Run Gloucester 7-Miler on Scenic Cape Ann, Massachusetts

Run Gloucester will be celebrating the beauty of the Cape Ann coastline as the gun goes off to mark the start of the first annual event, a 7-Mile Road Race along the beautiful shoreline. Proceeds from the Run Gloucester 7-Mile, sponsored by the Gloucester Daily Times and Saucony, Inc., will benefit the Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association and DMSE's Children's Fitness Foundation.

"It's just a beautiful place for a road race. We hope that runners from across New England will make this a "destination" race and enjoy Gloucester for the entire weekend," says Race Director, Ron Kramer of DMSE Sports, Inc. ( "This seaside town boasts quaint shops, restaurants, art galleries and non-stop shoreline. It makes a beautiful backdrop for a road race and a day or two out with your family."

According to DMSE, "The Run Gloucester 7-Miler will be the third, large-scale road race along the New England coastline on consecutive weekends each August, joining the TD Bank Beach to Beacon in Maine on Aug. 7 and The CIGNA Falmouth (Mass) Road Race on Aug. 15."

Gloucester is America's oldest seaport and is located 40 miles North of Boston. Among its attractions you find the much photographed "Man at the Wheel" statue", which has become a New England icon. In addition to the fishing industry the town is also home to America's oldest artist colony, the artists of Cape Ann. For additional information on the area, the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce website lists information on whale watching excursions, beaches, dining and accommodations. Gloucester is home to a large running community and town officials anticipate up to 3,000 people will take part in this inaugural race made up of locals and runners from throughout New England.

"The Run Gloucester 7-Mile is the third race in August featuring the scenic New England coastline, so runners can go from Cape Elizabeth, to Cape Cod to Cape Ann," said Dave McGillivray, president of DMSE Sports ( "As road race courses go, these three races comprise some of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the country." McGillivray, who also serves as race director of the TD Bank Beacon to Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and organized the recent Run to Home Base event at Fenway Park, developed the Run Gloucester 7-Mile with DMSE's Ron Kramer after meeting with local officials more than a year ago. The new Run Gloucester race is not affiliated with the town's Triathlon on August 8.

The race's primary beneficiary, the Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association, raises funds for Gloucester High School student-athletes and their families and is a key supporter of the renovation of Gloucester High's Newell Stadium--once a crown jewel of North Shore football stadiums that is in much need of repair.

Founded by McGillivray in 1981, DMSE Sports is a leader in sports event management, specializing in creating, marketing and producing mass participatory athletic events throughout the U.S. and abroad. McGillivray has produced or consulted on more than 900 mass-participatory athletic events throughout the world, including 23 Boston Marathons; the 2004 and 2008 USA Women's Olympic Marathon Trials, the 1990 Triathlon World Championship, the 1998 Goodwill Games Triathlon, and the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
