Are You Ready for The Color Run 5K?

If you're thinking about signing up for one of the most unique races out there, then follow a few of these survival tips.

Survival Tips for The Color Run

  • Wear white that you don't care about. Even though The Color Run says the paint will come out when you wash your clothes, not all of it really comes out. If get the powder gets wet , it tends to set in your clothes and voila a lovely stain that won't wash out appears.
  • Wear glasses or goggles. Remember those ridiculous science goggles you had to wear in chemistry? Well, go get a pair and wear them.  Since the powder is thrown on you through out the course, the chances of powder getting in your eyes are pretty high. The science goggles protect your eyes from all directions. Sunglasses work too, but if your frames are thin, the powder will probably slip through the sides.
  • Make sure you use the blower station. The best way to get rid of the powder is to have it blown off. There are a few volunteers who use leaf blowers to get the powder off of you. Use the leaf blowers a few times. One time won't get all the powder off, but four times will get a big chunk off.
  • Bring baby wipes. After most of the powder is blown off, reach for some baby wipes and start cleaning your body. Pay extra attention to your nails and ears. You might want to blow your nose a few times too, paint will get up your nose.  You might be blowing color for a day or two.
  • Bring a change of clothes. Once you're all clean, then take off you're colorful clothing and slip on some clean attire. Bring flip flops to give your feet a break too.
  • Don't be shocked to see color for a few days. The paint will probably still be in your hair a day or two after the race, no matter how many times you wash your hair. Again, you might see color when you blow your nose or when you use a q-tip to clean your ears.
  • Bring a camera. Take before and after photos so you can see how colorful you get. If you're brave enough to bring your camera on the course, make sure you wrap it up in a plastic baggy or some sort of protection so it doesn't get ruined.
  • Have fun. Don't worry about your run pace, this even is meant to be fun...so have fun. Laugh with your friends and other participants about how much paint you're wearing.  Enjoy the music, food and fun memories you create.
