About This Activity

Come out for a good cause on November 11th and make your mark in the quest to build awareness of what UNICEF calls “one of the most pervasive human rights challenges of our time” – CHILDHOOD DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (CDV).CHILDHOOD DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (CDV) is when you grow up living in a home with violence between your parents or violence towards a parent, from a stepparent or significant other. CDV impacts 1 in 7 people in the Atlanta Metro (557,337 people) and 278,702 children are experiencing it right now! An estimated 55 million Americans are impacted nationwide – more than 15 million children today and nearly 45 million adults who were these children growing up.

CDV has a “profound and lasting impact on a life.” Most end up struggling in some or all key areas of their life – their physical health, mental wellbeing, behaviors, or relationships – and it significantly increases their likelihood of suicide, addiction, and violence, which often gets passed onto the next generation. CDV is the SINGLE BEST PREDICTOR of becoming a victim or perpetrator of domestic violence in adulthood. BUT…no one knows about it! CDV has <15% public awareness...compared to other major childhood adversities, such as child abuse, which have >95 % awareness. And no widely practiced solutions exist to curb it.

YOU CAN HELP CHANGE THAT on November 11th at the first ever regional CDV awareness 5K in Roswell, GA, hosted by the Childhood Domestic Violence Association. Join hundreds locally in raising awareness and money to make a difference for the estimated 278,702children impacted by CDV in Metro Atlanta and the adults they will become, while enjoying a vigorous run/walk amidst the scenic Riverside Park in Roswell.
