The 14th annual Walk for Mental Health works to raise funds to educate, advocate, and provide direct community services to ensure that the children and adults of the Roanoke Valley get the treatment they deserve and need. Access to mental health treatment continues to be a major healthcare need in the Roanoke Valley. Without treatment, many of the 22.1% of American Adults who experience mental illness will go without care until their illnesses result in deteriorating relationships with family, friends, reduced productivity or inability to continue to work or go to school, a health care crisis, homelessness, or involvement with the criminal justice system.
Funds raised will go to help our Mental Health Free Clinic for uninsured, low-income adults; our Forgotten Victims program for children age 5-12 whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence; NAMI Caregiver workshops such as NAMI Basics which provides education and support for caregivers of children with mental illnesses; and advocacy efforts to improve access to mental health treatment in our community. Over 95% of every $1 you donate stays right here in our community.
