This course is designed to prepare students for employment as a Medical Assistant. Medical assistants are essential members of the health care team and work alongside physicians, mainly in outpatient or ambulatory care facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. This course will offer academic and clinical training in a variety of areas including human anatomy, physiology, and pathology; medical terminology; laboratory techniques (including phlebotomy); clinical and diagnostic procedures; pharmacology; medication administration; first aid; office practices; patient relations; and medical law and ethics. The course also includes the American Red Cross CPR course and certification. After successful completion of the program students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Cape Cod Technical Regional High School and will be eligible to take the NHA's Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) examination. Certification offers proof to employers that a medical assistant has achieved the highest standards of education and credentialing in the medical assistant field. The cost of the examination (approximately $130) is the student's responsibility and is NOT included in the tuition cost. All students who are admitted to the program will need to pass a CORI. Current immunization record is required. Textbook: Delmar's Comprehensive Medical Assisting, Administration and Clinical Competencies, 5th edition. This book is included in the cost of the course and will be given out on the first day of class. NOTE: Attendance is required and plays a significant role in the successful completion of this course.
