What's Included

Discover anew the American Revolutionary War and Colonial History in this unique, hands-on adventure history program! Exactly how was it possible for the world “to be turned upside down” at Yorktown? This camp will provide an in-depth exploration of the American Revolution through a global lens, as we will examine the 1781 victory at Yorktown and the Franco-American partnership that made it possible. We will begin our quest by exploring and studying the National American History Museum’s special exhibition, The American Revolution: A World War. This exhibit will provide valuable historical context (The Seven Years’ War, American Revolution), which will serve us well before we explore the sites where America was founded, furthered, and vindicated! From the Smithsonian, we will tour and experience the Old Stone House, the oldest colonial structure in D.C., and then delve into the life and leadership of George Washington while touring his historic estate, Mount Vernon. Our week will culminate in an engaging exploration of the Historic Triangle, as we immerse ourselves in all the best attractions and experiences that Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown have to offer. Monday: Overview, Smithsonian American History Museum, Old Stone House Tuesday: Mount Vernon (museum, mansion, farm, gristmill) Wednesday: drive from campus to Jamestown, 2.5-hour guided tour in the afternoon, followed by basketball, swimming, and a BBQ at Anvil Campground Thursday: guided tour of Williamsburg 9-noon, self-guided touring in the afternoon and a group dinner at a historic Williamsburg Tavern Friday: 2-hour guided tour of Yorktown Battlefield in the morning, followed by self-guided touring after lunch and the drive back to campus Adventure History with The Heights: Washington, Hamilton, Rochambeau, Lafayette, and Cornwallis await!
