Artists have been creating jewelry for over 100,000 years – with the earliest examples originating in Africa and proliferating throughout the world, growing in complexity and creativity. Learn both historical and contemporary practices in this foundation course. Explore fundamentals of fabrication with nonferrous metals such as copper, brass, and sterling silver. Through assignments, gain experience in sawing, filing, silver (torch) soldering, polishing, and basic patination. Chain-making and the elements of design will also be introduced.
No prerequisite. Price includes a $50 studio and basic materials fee which provides all basic materials. Additional materials available for purchase.
