The Badge of Honor Benefit Run is an event to honor the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protect and serve the citizens of their communities. Proceeds of the monies raised from this event will be distributed among three distinguished law enforcement support groups, dedicated to assisting police officers, fire fighters, and emergency medical personnel. The MASTERS is a non-profit organization designed to assist the families of Missouri State Troopers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Similar to The MASTERS, The BackStoppers provides needed support and financial assistance to the spouses and children of all local and county police officers, firefighters, publicly-funded paramedics and EMTs and volunteer fire protection units, who have lost their lives performing their duty. The Missouri Fraternal Order of Police is dedicated to improving the working conditions of police officers so they are able to provide quality law enforcement services to the communities they have sworn to protect. The proceeds from this event will also be used to help the Local Missouri Fraternal Order of Police fund community programs like the Annual Shop with a Hero Program, where law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and emergency medical personnel shop with children to purchase Christmas gifts during the holiday season.
Event details and schedule
March 22, 2015 Update:
Yesterday (March 21) was the last day to register online with Active.com. You can still register but you will have to do so in person on Friday, March 27, 2015, between 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Black River Coliseum or on race day (March 28, 2015) between 6:00 – 7:00 A.M. at the parking lot across from the Black River Coliseum, located at 301 South 5th Street, in Poplar Bluff, MO. We will have a registration tent set up on race day in the parking lot. Now, we still have finisher medals for those of you who haven’t registered yet and we ordered extra shirts. We will make every attempt to provide participants with a shirt and finisher’s medal, but there is no guarantee at this point. We have 143 participants registered to date: 59 – 5k, 23 – 10k, 61 – Half Marathon. As of right now, the weather shows mostly sunny with the high of 49 degrees. Special Note (dated: March 15, 2015):
Currently, we have 131 participants registered for this event. We ordered 200 - 5k finisher medals, 75 - 10k finisher medals, and 75 Half Marathon finisher medals. We should have enough finisher medals for 5k / 10k participants planning to register from now to race day. Everyone registered to date (March 15) will receive a shirt and finishers medal. We have also ordered extras shirts for those planning to register from now to race day as well. Currently, we 59 individuals registered for the half marathon. 75 half marathon finisher medals were purchased, which leaves 16 finisher medals left to date. If you still plan to register for the half marathon and wish to receive a finisher’s medal, the remaining half marathon finisher medals will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. An e-mail will be sent confirming you will receive a finisher’s medal and shirt.
Event Weather Policy
With any outdoor event, weather may be a factor on whether or not the race will take place. Race personnel may have to cancel or delay the event in case of extreme weather or other conditions that may affect the health and safety of the participants and spectators. In the event of a cancellation, refunds will not be issued.
Participants will be able to pick up their packets on Friday, March 27, 2015, between 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Black River Coliseum Lobby area. They will also be able to pick up their packets on race day, between 6:00 - 7:00 A.M. at the registration tent, which will be located in the parking lot directly in front of the Black River Coliseum.
There should be plenty of parking for the race, which includes participants and spectators. The parking lot, located directly across the Black River Coliseum will NOT be available for parking, since this location has been designated for race day registration and the race start and finish location. A map has been placed on this website to provide those individuals not familiar with Poplar Bluff directions to the parking lots. 5th Street directly in front of the Black River Coliseum will be closed during the race.
Race day registration will commence at 6:00 A.M. and will end at 7:00 A.M. This is necessary so all the information can loaded into the computer for the chip time company and ensure race time is initiated at 8:00 A.M. We plan to order extra shirts and medals for those registering on race day, but there is no guarantee a participant registering race day will receive a shirt and medal. Participants MUST be 16 years old or older to participant in the event. Payment for race day registration must be by check, money order, or cash, since we will not have the ability to process credit card payments that day. Participants will be required to complete a registration form prior to participating in the event. On-line registration with Active.com will end on March 22, 2015. Race is capped at 800 participants. Individuals can still register up to 7:00 A.M. on race day as long as the event is not sold out. Please visit the event website for additional registration information.
Chip Time Service
Split Master Timing will chip time the race. They will provide all participants with instructions on the chip timing process prior to the commencement of the race.
The Black River Coliseum will be open to the public so everyone can use the restrooms and shower facilities. We will also have several porta potties on the parking lot near the registration tent. Porta potties will also be placed along the half marathon route. The placement of these porta potties will be announced on race day.
All race routes will be clearly marked and volunteers will be strategically placed to guide runners to their designated race routes. Aid stations will be strategically placed throughout the 10K and Half Marathon routes. We will try to position aid stations approximately every two miles, but several may be shorter or longer distances due to logistics.
Shirts / Medals
All participants registered by the March 6, 2015 date will be guaranteed a quality race shirt and finisher medal. This includes all races.
Top Award Winners
The top male / female overall finishers in each of the race categories (5k, 10k, half marathon) will receive an award, as well as the top three finishers in each age group.
We have the local ambulance districts available to attend to any injury or medical condition. The local hospitals will be advised of the race so they are prepared if a medical emergency arises.
Snacks, Supplements and Beverages
We will have snacks, supplements and beverages for participants. Beverages will consist of water and sport drink. Supplements (GU and Chomp packets) will be provided to half marathon runners and will be available at designated aid stations.
