Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art combined with dance, acrobatics and music. It was created by Afro-Brazilian slaves in the 16th century. Today, Capoeira is practiced around the world and is recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. It is a great way for children of all ages to master self-defense, learn acrobatic skills and discover instruments, music and songs from Brazil. Above all, Capoeira is a game and is a great way to have fun while learning an ancestral tradition that brings all kinds of people together to celebrate diversity. This club is taught by Mestre Maxuel, who began practicing Capoeira at the age of five in his native region of Bahia, Brazil. He has produced two CDs of his own capoeira music, and has set up schools in Chile, France and the United States. He has taught in schools, universities and cultural centers around the world. Mestre Maxuel loves sharing his passion for Capoeira with his students, and excels at making classes fun for everyone. (Please note: There are no sessions on Feb 28 and March 6.)
