Drill of the Week: Soccer Shoulder Drop for Kids

Welcome to Drill of the Week, a series on ACTIVEkids.com that explains individual and team drills for parents and coaches to help kids improve at the sports they love.

This week's drill is Shoulder Drop, a soccer exercise brought to you by TheDrillbook.com.

Description

As you approach the defender, pretend to take the ball with the outside foot stepping to one side while dropping the shoulder. Take the ball with the outside of the opposite foot and push off in the opposite direction, accelerating away from the defender.

Key Teaching Points

- Distance from the defender. Perform the skill about 2 strides from the defender. Too far and the defender can react, too close and the defender can take the ball.

- Decelerate on approach and accelerate away after the skill.

- Be sure to practice both left and right foot
