Come for the trail running, stay for the scenery. Here is a sampling of popular destinations throughout the country for trail running enthusiasts, as well as locations for popular trail races.
Located in the Santa Monica Mountains, Point Mugu State Park features five miles of ocean shoreline and 70 miles of hiking trails.
Black Hills, South Dakota
This campground is located seven miles south of Hill City, in the Black Hills National Forest, the site for the Crazy Horse Half and Full Marathon trail runs.
Clarksburg State Park is known for its scenic fall foliage. It offers breathtaking views of the Berkshire Hills and Green Mountains, and is the location for Running of the Tories 5K Trail Run.
Alafia consists of 6,312 acres and 40 miles of trails ideal for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. While you're in the area, why not check out the X-Country Marathon.
