The Triad's premier Pink Ribbon Ride returns this October and promises to be bigger and better than ever! Special guest, retired pro cyclist, George Hincapie will be joining us on the road for the 2013 Gran Fondo with Friends!
During his 19-year professional career Hincapie was regarded as the premier American classics rider of his generation. He competed in a record 17 Ronde van Vlaanderen races and finished second at the grueling Paris-Roubaix, the best ever for any American. Beyond the classics he rode in the Tour de France 17 times and won three US National Road Race championships.
The Gran Fondo with Friends is a charity ride that raises critical research dollars for breast cancer research. For the second year in a row, Earlier.org-Friends For An Earlier Breast Cancer Test has been chosen as the charity partner of the ride and a portion of the proceeds from the ride, along with any additional fundraising done by participants, will help fund research seeking a biological earlier detection test for breast cancer. With your help, we can change the picture of breast cancer forever!
About the Ride:
Participants have the choice of a 12, 25, 43, 61 or 100 mile route that takes them along beautiful North Carolina back-roads towards Hanging Rock State Park. The ride begins with a 2 mile Grand Marshall's Ride, led by breast cancer survivors, as a way to honor these women and men and celebrate the courageous journey that have traveled. Six fully stocked rest stops will be stationed along the route and on road SAG and Technical support is provided until 4:00pm. A hot catered lunch awaits participants at the finish.
