We're sorry, but this class is over. The last meeting was Saturday, April 27, 2019.
(Ages 10 - 18)
Students continue their study of scales, key signatures, intervals, and chords. Level 3 introduces transposition, chord progressions and voice leading in keyboard style texture, cadences, complex rhythms, and musical forms. By the end of the year, students will be able to harmonize a melody with a keyboard accompaniment, and compose music using the same texture. Students participate in weekly singing and listening group activities to hone sight singing and ear training skills. This class is designed to help students improve their musical literacy, and to provide the foundation for further explorations of harmony, music history, counterpoint, and analysis.
Students who complete the course will be prepared to sit for the Royal Conservatory's Level 6 Theory Exam. (Please note: Levine's Theory Levels do not directly correspond to RCM). The Royal Conservatory Certificate Program provides a recognized standard of musical success through a sequenced course of study. The program provides individual student assessments and allows students to celebrate accomplishment as they complete the levels of the sequence. Students who earn certificates will have a measurable standard of success that can be placed on college applications and resumes. More information about the Royal Conservatory Certificate Program can be found here.
