About This Activity

Mid-Atlantic MedWAR 2019

MedWAR is short for Medical Wilderness Adventure Race. It is a unique event that combines wilderness medical challenges with the growing sport of adventure racing. The race was also developed as a tool for teaching and testing the knowledge, skills, and techniques of wilderness medicine, and for promoting teamwork and collegiality among competitors. MedWAR is sanctioned by North American Educational Adventure Racing (NAEAR).

The Mid-Atlantic MedWAR is one of the oldest race in the MedWAR Challenge Series. Our first race was in 2006 at Fort A. P. Hill, a US Army training center near Bowling Green, Virginia. We’ve since relocated to Newport News Park and are proud to keep the MedWAR tradition alive in Virginia with a history of presenting the most demanding orienteering challenges in the MedWAR series.

Capacity: 25 teams of three (3) at $150-$165 per team.

Format: Racers will mountain bike, canoe, and orienteer while navigating to checkpoints containing wilderness medicine scenarios and questions. Some basic ropes elements may or may not be included.

Camping is available by reservation for a small additional fee at the Newport News Park Campground. Details at www.medwar.org/location-midatlantic

Teams: 25 teams of three (3) racers.

Fees: $150 early bird team pricing. $165 per team after Feb 22nd, 2019.

Deadline: March 15th, 2019. After this date, contact us. Entries may accepted based on availability.

Registration includes:

  1. Canoe rental*
  2. Event shirt and water bottle
  3. Race admission
  4. Post-race celebration event and meal
  5. CME/CE credits (details coming soon)

*You are welcome to bring and use personal gear instead.

Cancellation Policy: Full refund through February 22nd, 50% refund through March 8th. No refund on or after March 9th. Team members may be substituted at anytime until check-in on Race Day. Please let Race Directors know of any substitutions.
