About This Activity

MMRF PowerTeam: 2013 Five Boro Bike Tour

Each year the first Sunday in May, tens of thousands of riders begin their 40-mile cycling tour of New York City in Lower Manhattan. The tour travels on car-free roads, heading north through the heart of Manhattan to Central Park and on to historic Harlem and the Bronx. The tour then returns south along the East River on the FDR Drive. From there, it crosses into Queens and then Brooklyn, where cyclists take over the highway, before making the thrilling climb up - and down - the Verrazano Narrows Bridge to Staten Island. The ride culminates with a fun outdoor festival to celebrate your accomplishment.

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is one of ‘hottest tickets’ in the TriState area and this year will be available via a lottery system only, or via a charity. We have a limited number of entries! Join our team and claim yours!

The MMRF invites you to help us raise awareness and funds for multiple myeloma research by taking part in a physical challenge. We have made it easy to support the MMRF while participating in this incredible event. Participating on our team promises to be one of the most empowering and inspiring experiences of your life.

All Star Team members are required to raise a minimum of $1000 each. MVP Team Members are required to raise at least $2000. Team members will be provided with a personal donation page, tips and sample emails, and access to full-time fundraising support, should they need it. Team members pay $100 at the time of registration, which covers the cost of their event registration, an MMRF team shirt, and other amenities. MVP Team members receive a Champion Systems cycling shirt, a VIP pass that provides access to a special area where coffee and a light breakfast is served before the ride, a pass that puts them at the front of the 30,000 riders, and a lunch in a special VIP area at the post event festival,

In order to ensure that 90% of all funds raised go back to fund myeloma research, each MMRF athlete will be responsible for costs such as transportation and hotel accommodations.

About the MMRF and Multiple Myeloma
The mission of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure. The MMRF is the world's largest private funder of myeloma research. An outstanding 90% of all funds are budgeted for cancer research and related programming. Multiple myeloma is an incurable blood cancer. Although progress has been made in treating multiple myeloma, the five-year survival rate remains one of the lowest of all cancers.

Why Run for our Team?
Our teams raise money and awareness for cancer research. Many members of our teams have a direct connection to multiple myeloma. Others join us to support a great organization that is transforming the way that medical research and drug development are being conducted. All team members are proud to support an organization that is using their money responsibly and is one of the nations' highest rated charities by 'watch dogs' like Charity Navigator, which rates the MMRF in the top 1% of all charities it monitors.
