Our first annual event takes place from "Paddys Creek Recreation Area".

The Lake James Trail Races are part of the

2014 "Search for the Mountain Goat" trail race series.

Event details and schedule

We will be starting out on pavement for spacing. All races will start together on the Mills Creek Trail. Running along the shore of Lake James to begin with. The short course crosses the Park road while the longer races head for the Mountain Bike Trails.

The MTB trails are brand new and definitely worth a trip with your bike to check out.

The trails run very deep into the forest and are only slightly mountainous. Most of the trails are up and down, up and down, undulating like waves in the ocean.  There are some tight turns, but very few obstacles on the trails. Most of the technical sections of the course are on the Hike Only portion of the Mill Creek trail.

Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, between the towns of Marion and Morganton, Lake James is 1,200 feet above sea level. Steep, forested ridges, and the clear waters of Lake James welcome runners to this first class State Park. The MTB trail closes during periods of wet weather.
