The BNW Student Union (BNW SU) is one of the planet's leading institutions for the study of improvisation. Our motto -- "Improv for Everyone, Improv for Life, Improv for Good," -- speaks to our mission of inspiring everyday people to discover and harness their best and most brave selves through improvisation. We believe everyone is an improviser and the skills, mindset and behaviors improvisers practice can have a profound positive impact on our everyday lives. We offer classes for ages 9 to 99 through our renowned youth and adult improvisation programs in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as delivering hundreds of outreach and community programs regionally. We have been teaching improvisation for more than 40 years -- and lead the league in providing a supportive culture that welcomes all. The BNW SU is the non-profit, educational division of the renowned Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis (the longest running satirical comedy theatre in the U.S. and founded by Dudley Riggs in 1958). For nearly 60 years, the BNW Comedy Theatre has been crafting audacious, hilarious and thought-provoking original comedy, improv and satire. While our theatre is well known for launching the Hollywood careers of hundreds of comedic performers and writers including Al Franken, Louie Anderson, Mo Collins, Pat Proft, Melissa Peterman, Peter Tolan and more, our school (the BNW SU) proudly claims thousands of graduates who have gone on to use improvisation in everyday life. Be Brave / Do Improv!
