Bojutsu is a Japanese martial art specializing in the use of a five-foot staff. Students learn improved hand skills, coordination, physical conditioning and some aspects of Japanese culture. The curriculum includes forms performed alone and two-person action techniques for disarming and pinning partners. Upon registration for this program, participants agree to follow MPRB requirements related to face coverings and physical distancing. Face coverings are required indoors at all MPRB facilities, unless otherwise specified by MPRB as part of athletics protocol. Some youth programs, including childcare and preschool require participants to maintain physical distance.
Students may bring their own staff to use, but it cannot be longer than 5 feet 3 inches. Ordinary street clothes may be worn, but sweatpants and t-shirt or martial arts pants and shirt are preferable.
