Use & Event Permits2117 West River Road North Minneapolis, MN 55411
This activity is closed to registration.
The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board annually issues permits for canoe racks on Bde Maka Ska, Lake Harriet, Lake Nokomis, Cedar Lake , Brownie Lake, Ryan Lake, Wirth Lake, Lake Hiawatha and Lake of the Isles. If you're looking for river waters, Boom Island and Bohemian Flats offer racks along the Mississippi River.
Applications for canoe racks will be accepted beginning January 2, 2019. New applicants are assigned canoe racks through a lottery drawing. The lottery picks are based on a priority basis, giving city of Minneapolis residents first priority to their permits. City residents who meet the deadline for returning their application will be considered before non-residents of the city.
Applicants should attend the lottery drawing or send a proxy to select a canoe rack upon the announcement of the applicant's name. The lottery drawing will be held at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Headquarters building on Thursday, March 14, 2019 beginning at 6:00 p.m. If you cannot make the lottery we will choose a rack for you if your name is called based on your preferred lake rankings selected. If none of your preferred lakes are available, we'll place you on a wait list until (or at your request - refund you before) May 1st.
Your application is not received until you complete registration and have had the opportunity to print a receipt with confirmation language included.
