Pilates focuses on strengthening the abdominals, lower back, and hips-collectively referred to as "the core", to maximize functional fitness and restore proper alignment. Yoga asana (pose) practice includes postures that improve balance and flexibility, facilitating a deeper body/mind connection. When the core strengthening aspect of Pilates is fused with the mindful movement of Yoga asana, Yogalates is born. This is a uniquely challenging workout that creatively leverages body weight as resistance, so no equipment is used other than a simple yoga mat. Techniques learned from this class can be practiced anywhere! Expect to break a sweat. Prior yoga or pilates experience is helpful but not required.
