On April 18, 2015, Family & Children’s Place will host the first Stomp the silence: Taking steps toward healing, 5K! This family friendly event will take place in the heart of St. Matthews, at Seneca Park.
Revenue from Stomp the Silence 5K helps support critical services for child survivors of abuse and their families. The need for child abuse prevention and treatment programs is greater now than ever before in the history of Louisville and surrounding areas. Annually, F&CP provides support to more than 6,500 children and family members.
The impact of child abuse:
In 2012 in Kentucky, approximately 1,800 children were victims of substantiated physical abuse, more than 800 children were victims of substantiated sexual abuse, and nearly 15,000 were substantiated victims of neglect.
More than half of Kentucky’s confirmed victims of child maltreatment are school-aged (5-17 years old).
In Jefferson County, 319 children were victims of substantiated physical abuse, nearly 100 children were victims of substantiated sexual abuse, and more than 2,300 were substantiated victims of neglect in 2012.
