A great day to start the morning is an event with 4 challenges. Swimming, kayaking (paddle board or surfboard), terrain running, and a bicycle ride all within 3 hours. The event takes place in beautiful Nawiliwili Bay surrounded by mountains and water all within the Lihue Hub. The event is not challengeing enough for A listers but for those that just wanna have fun!
You accept the challenge, sweat it out, then finish off with a lunch provided for you at the Kauai Sailing Associations Head Quarters.
Event details and schedule
0500: Setup takes place at the end of the Nawiliwili jetty.
The end of the jetty will be coned off and no vehicles will be let into the staging area where warmups are taking place. Spectators are allowed.
Registration to follow.
At registration, you and your team mate will decide who will be the swimmer or if one (1) person will do the complete course.The other person waits on the beach with shoes and watercraft.
You will need your id, registration packet, and pledge forms.
0600 - 0700: Once registered, watercraft, and bicycles must be put in place. Bicycles are dropped off at Hulemalu and Haiku Road. Watercraft and shoes will be dropped off to the right of the rock on the beach facing the Marriott Hotel. The Marriott Guest Parking lot is entered through the "beach access road" on Kalapaki Circle, on the grounds of the Marriott.
After the seacrafts leave the area, your team mate can head over to the Club House at the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbour, 2494 Niumalu Road. The event will end at the entrance to the harbor and watercraft will be brought back to the area for pickup.
0800: Final safety meeting with entrants. It is advisable that a second pair of footwear be kept with you should sea conditions prevent the swim. Then running to the beach will ensue. Should shoes NOT be needed, drop them off with the officials tagged with your name, and they will bring them back to the finish where you can retrieve them.
0815 approx.: The challenge starts.
Into the water and head for the beach (0.5 mi), find your partner who is waiting by your watercraft, and head out and to the right to meet the Huleia river on the left parallel with the small boat harbor.
Once you arrive at the top of the river (3.6 mi.)you will meet officials who will hold onto your watercraft, and direct you to the running segment of the challenge (0.7 mi.). Look for the yellow flags on trees.
When you are at the top of the Hulemalu and Haiku Road, mount your bicycles and head down to the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor and the finish line (3.4 mi.). You will be guided in. Please follow all rules of the road. Lunch will be provided.
