Description
We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Friday, September 27, 2024.
When the 19th century opened, a few villages destined to become Baltimore were modest centers of commerce. At first little more than subsidence living, these new Americans grew with the city, enjoying better lives for themselves. Skilled work, then a nescient labor movement, increased prosperity and offered fuller, richer lives. This program details what life was like in 19th century Baltimore, from medicine to temperance to entertainment. Through good economic times and bad, prosperity, wars, and a mid-century dominance of the political “know nothings”. This is a story of the lives of the people and the realities of their lives.
