The Garrett Meriwether Foundation Inaugural 5K Run/1 Mile Walk takes place at the beautiful Kellogg Zaher Park in the Summerlin area on September 15, 2019, at 8:15 am. The Garrett Meriwether Foundation was founded by the family of Garrett Meriwether, a young man who was tragically killed on May 22, 2019, by a driver under the influence. Garrett was only 18 years old the day he died and had just recently finished his first year at UNLV filled with the hope and promise of a career in hospitality management. He was a loving son, brother, nephew and dedicated friend to many, as demonstrated by his life of faith and service to others.
To honor Garrett, and in memory of his spirit, compassion and the passions he left unfulfilled, his family, together with his friends, made a commitment to raise money for scholarships and other educational programs, so that others may have the benefit of pursuing their dreams and goals.
Losing a child is something no one should have to endure, but when it happens in such an abrupt and senseless manner, it brings into sharp focus all that is seemingly taken for granted. Most especially in the case of Garrett, the blessing of a chance to work towards and achieve his goals. For this reason, we are extremely grateful to everyone willing to help us keep Garrett’s memory alive by helping give other people that opportunity and would ask you to please consider joining us on our inaugural run/walk as we endeavor to establish Garrett’s lasting legacy. 100% of the funds raised are going to scholarships for local students in need of assistance.
We will have registration open on the day of the event from 7 am to 7:45 am, please give yourself enough time by getting there early.
Open ceremony will start at 8 am.
