Today we are joined by professional step-on guide Curt, who is a history buff with an expertise on the evolution of Los Angeles, and is especially loved for his charismatic personality and fun stories. Journey into L.A.'s past with this tour higlighting the old, new and most unique buildings that make this city's architecture so iconic. If there's a place in Los Angeles where you can hear the past, it's the historic Union Station. Follow Curt through the last major train station built in this country to see its gorgeous Spanish revival and art deco style which is a true refelction of the rich Los Angeles culture that surrounds it. Visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels and its unexpectedly ultra-modern construction. In stark contrast are the architectural triumphs of the 1893 Bradbury Building, with its staggeringly complex iron work illuminated by the beautiful skylights. Visit the brilliantly constructed Walt Disney Concert Hall with 22 million tons of steel in sweeping, graceful curves that mimic the music played inside its walls. We'll go back in time as Curt highlights the beautiful buildings and homes in and around downtown that embody turn-of-the-century charm. Enjoy a docent-guided tour at Heritage square, a living history museum reflecting the development of Southern California from the Civil War to the early 20th century. The eight historic structures located here were all constructed during the Victorian Era and were witnesses to the everyday lives of Angelenos during the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. See one of the oldest neighborhoods in L.A. on Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights. It consists of Victorian-era houses and has served as the backdrop for countless movies from the earliest days of cinema to the present. We'll take a ride on historic Angels Flight, the shortest railway in the world, that was built in 1901 to transport people to the top of Bunker Hill. Enjoy time for lunch on your own at Grand Central market, a downtown landmark since 1917, that brings together the eclectic cuisines and cultures of L.A. Price includes tour director and driver gratuities.
