GLOW IT UP BLUE 5K UPDATE
We know it’s been awhile since we have given an update to this race, so we wanted to take a moment to get you up to speed. Over the past few weeks, we have spent countless hours planning and meeting with local authorities, the venue, etc. to make a race of this size and nature fit within the guidelines and requirements of the CDC and local authorities. While we have put together an amazing plan (thanks to the combined efforts of the team), we also know with so much uncertainty in the community regarding the pandemic, many of you were nervous about running in an event of this size. And given the vast amount of guideline changes, and the hesitancy of cities and counties to write any permits at all, we have had to modify our plan of attack weekly to keep up with the changes (which was the cause for the delay in providing updates, as the answers we received changed frequently)
What it boils down to is due to the size of this event, and due to the increase in COVID-19 cases as of late, we have made the decision to not proceed with the August 8th date. Since day one with our company, safety has always been our number one priority, and given the current climate, we know this is the right thing to do. However, all is not lost…..
Instead of turning it into a virtual run, we have taken the decision to postpone the race to October 17th. This race is too important to the community, to the families (including our family) that were joining us in honor of a loved one with Autism, and to all those that it reaches. We will update the registration page as soon as possible to reflect this new date.
Registered participants will have three options to choose from (PLEASE NOTE THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THOSE THAT HAD REGISTERED PRIOR TO 8/1/2020)
1. Run “live” with us on October 17th.
2. Run “virtually” with us. (more on this later)
3. Defer your entry to 2021
If you choose option one, you don’t have to do anything, and your registration will roll over automatically. If you opt for option 2 or 3, you will need to let us know. Since there is so much uncertainty regarding the pandemic, you have until September 14th to decide which option is best for you. (Don’t worry, we will send out reminders!)
If you decide to run virtually with us, you will have two windows of time to do it. You can submit times between 8/8 and 8/15, and we will make arrangements for you to receive your shirt/finisher medal (usually it takes 7-10 days after the last date of submission for items to be mailed out). OR you can submit your time between 10/10 and 10/15, and you will be able to receive your shirt/medal then. We will save times from both time windows and score them together, as the virtual race will have its own separate awards ceremony that will be different from the “live” race awards ceremony. If you choose to run virtually, you will not be able to run in the live event also. If you choose to run virtually during the 8/8 – 8/15 window, please let us know no later than August 5th so we can plan accordingly. If you opt to wait until the 10/10 – 10/15 window, you have until 9/14 to decide.
While we are disappointed our running family won’t be coming together on August 8th, we value the safety and well-being of all of you. Thank you for all the love and support through the craziness of the past five months, and we can’t wait until we get to see everyone again “live”.
Stay safe and stay healthy!
