(Instructor: Renee Blake) Online Course- June 1 - 30, 2020 Science Lab- Required on one of the following Fridays: June 12th, 19th OR 26th; 12:00 -3:00 p.m. on campus Grade: 10-12 One-half science elective credit (.50) Cost: $375 Botany is the scientific study of plants and their relationship to the environment. Botany covers a wide range of scientific disciplines that study the growth, reproduction, anatomy, morphology, physiology, biochemistry and ecology of plants. The course is designed where students will complete at home video lectures, readings, homework, online quizzes and online exams. Students will be REQUIRED to attend ONE of the Fridays (June 12th, 19th, or 26th) to complete the labs. There will not be a comprehensive final exam, instead students will research plant adaptations in extreme conditions on Earth compared to Extraterrestrial environments such as the Moon or Mars. Students will create a PowerPoint and voice over video for their presentation. Topics to be covered include: Plant Classification / Diversity / Adaptations, Structure & Function, Growth, Reproduction, Response (hormones) and Medicinal Plants. Note: This course does not replace the required biology, chemistry or physics courses required for graduation. It is one-half science credit elective that will count toward your 3 science credits for graduation.
