The Redwood Coast Chapter of the United States Lifesaving Association, in conjunction with Redwood Coast Masters will be hosting the Russian River Challenge. A 500 meter swim as well as 1 mile loop of river. Water temperature will be 70 to 74 degrees. All participants must wear the provided swim cap; there will be no exceptions.The 500 meter begins at 9:00am - Registration is from 7:30 - 8:30amThe 1 mile begins at 9:30am - Registration is from 7:30 - 9:00am The swim will begin and end on a sandy beach. Water temperature should be 65 to 70 degrees. The swimmers will swim upriver 1/2 mile following buoys. They will round 3 buoys and return to finish on a sandy beach. All participants must wear the provided swim cap; there will be no exceptions. There are 2 categories for suits, Category 1 and Category 2.a. Category 1 suits can only be made from textile materials. For men, the swimsuit shall not extendabove the naval nor below the knees. For women, the swimsuit shall not cover the neck, extend pastthe shoulder nor extend below the knees.b. Category 2 suits include all other swimwear (e.g. wetsuits, previously legal technical suits, like Blue70?s or Lazers, rash guards and arm bands.)Category 2 wetsuits will render the participant ineligible for awards. Awards will be given to the overall female and male winners and to the first three places in all age groups. For the 500m swim, swimmers will swim straight upriver 250m and return to a sand beach finish. The course will be patrolled by lifeguards from Redwood Coast Lifesaving Association. All pre-registered competitors will receive a commemorative t-shirt. T-shirts will also be on sale race day.
