For the 8th year in a row, we will hold a memorial walk in Haleyville on May 19, 2018, in Mark's honor. Mark was KIA in Afghanistan September 29, 2010 during a firefight and while attempting to save a teammate. He was a patriot to the core.
For anyone who wants to participate, the walk will begin 6:00 am and will be a continuous 28 miles in honor of Mark's retired call sign - Jaguar 28. This is the first year we've done 28 miles. All prior years we walked the # of miles that represented Mark's age that year. Last year was 36 miles. Due to manpower and logistical issues, we are capping at 28 miles now.
The route will begin and end at Haleyville High School. We welcome anyone who wants to participate. The entry fee is $40 and supports The Mark Forester Foundation. The walk will go thru mostly rural areas of hilly Winston County. We anticipate the walk taking about 10.5 hours. There will be staging areas every 5 to 8 miles with water. Bring your own snacks. Lunch will be provided.
