We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Friday, January 3, 2020.
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies, and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. Participants must pass a prerequisite swim test (300 yard continuous swim, tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a timed brick retrieval test in 7 feet of water) on the first day in order to be accepted in the class. Participants must attend ALL class sessions, complete 7 hours of online simulation activities and pass a written and practical skills test in order to become certified as a Lifeguard. All students receive a Lifeguard book, hip pack, breathing barrier and whistle.
All participants must be at least 15 years old. Passing this class does not guarantee a position with the City of Gilroy. Must have a minimum of 5 participants to run the class. There is a maximum of 10 students.
Class is held at Christopher High School, 850 Day Road.
