About this event

We're sorry, but this course is over. The last meeting was Saturday, March 20, 2021.

Have you desired to learn how to draw in a realistic fashion for watercolor or other media? This workshop is geared to educate you how to design a grid that specifically assists you to draw from a particular image. Students learn how to taylor their grid to suit their reference image.

Ms. Littleton will begin by discussing the history of the grid method and how artists have used it throughout the ages. She will then discuss how the grid itself is a useful tool to assist the artist with composition, proportion and perspective. Ms. Littleton will discuss and demonstrate how to format the grid. An image will be provided but students may use their own (images must be printed out, preferably at least 8” x 10”, more simple subject matter recommended, must have a strong light source). Students will then work to create their own grid and begin the preliminary line drawing for their image. Students will have the opportunity to get a critique of their progress.

Ms. Littleton enjoys working with and encouraging students of all levels. Known to deliver serious training in a fun atmosphere, come join her for this informative workshop.

All levels welcomed.

Workshop will be held online through Zoom.

Required Supplies:

* Graphite Pencils: HB, plastic eraser, detailed plastic eraser, pencil sharpener, ultra fine point sharpie marker, black.

* Paper: No smaller then, 12” x 16”, larger is fine, inexpensive 50 lb. white drawing paper (thinner paper is better for transferring to the watercolor paper)

* Drawing board such as masonite board at least 18 x 24 or bigger, 2 bull dog clips & ruler with cork on the back (best to have a larger board so the reference image can be placed directly next to the preliminary drawing).

Students need to purchase the above supplies as they are not provided. Table or floor easels are recommended but not required. Please simply think how to display your art work in front of your computer so Ms. Littleton can assist you as this is an online art class. Please have a notebook or something for note taking. The class will begin with a lecture, showing of exemplars and discussion. Then there will be a demonstration and students will have time to work on developing their own grid for their image as well as start on their drawing. Ms. Littleton will assist you with developing the grid in addition to the drawing.
