About this event
Six IN-PERSON sessions September 16, 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21 In this class we will look at the composers and their music in each musical period that have not garnered the same praise that the Bachs, Beethovens, and Brahms have received. You'll hear the works of five different composers each week and discover what made their music great! Composers such as: Rameau in the Baroque; Rossini in the Classical; Schumann in the Romantic; Elgar in the Modern; Ligeti in the Post-Modern; and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies in the 21st Century; to name a few. All thirty composers had something in common and many differences that resulted in their musical climb to the top of the compositional ladder. Come explore with us! Steve Coldiron has been teaching BULLI courses for many years, totaling over 20 courses to date. He served as the associate minister of music at First Baptist Church in Gainesville for over 12 years with responsibilities for the church's orchestra and handbell programs. He recently retired from full-time church music after 42 years of ministry. Coldiron is the music director and conductor of the Gainesville String Orchestra and owns Four Walls Music, where he provides handbell, piano and orchestra music to churches and individuals. He has graduate degrees in both music theory and church music.
