How to Use Leftover Rice

Rice

Got leftover rice? Then you've got the makings for your next tasty snack or meal.

Leftover rice is the perfect ingredient for quick and flavorful meals and is even carb-heavy enough to fuel your next run or ride.

But the success of your leftovers starts with storing rice properly after cooking.

To make sure your leftover rice is food-safe and ready to eat, cool the leftovers as quickly as possible and store them in the refrigerator.

Over time, the rice will lose moisture and become a bit dry and clumpy, but there are ways to bring that inviting, soft and fluffy texture back to life.

Here are two of our favorites.

No time? Use the microwave.

If you're short on time, we recommend using the microwave method.

Combine the rice and a small bit of water in a microwave-safe dish and use a fork to
break up any large clumps of rice. Cover the dish with a wet paper towel, making sure the towel is laid directly on top of the rice.

Then, cook on high heat until the rice is heated through.

For versatility, steam it on the stovetop.

In a saucepan, combine the rice with a splash of water, and use a fork or spatula to break up any large clumps of rice.

Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid and cook the rice over low heat, stirring occasionally and adding small increments of additional water until the rice is heated through.

Feel free to add a bit of oil and any pre-cooked meat or veggies to make a full meal.
