Hike this woodland trail from Kawaneeche Valley spiraling up Timber Creek to a shallow, alpine lake west of Mt Ida & the Continental Divide. Great for wildflowers throughout the summer! NOTE: There is a washout with unstable soil and downed trees blocking a 200-ft section of trail. It can be navigated if hikers are comfortable off trail.
Bring two liters of water, snacks, rain gear, extra layers of clothing, hat, gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses and hiking boots. Bring a Rocky Mountain National Park pass or money to contribute to park entrance fees. Additionally, bring money to chip in for gas for the driver.
A = Most Difficult
B = Challenging
C = Harder
D = Hard
|E = More Moderate
F = Moderate
G = Easy
H = Easiest
To meet the prerequisite for A-D hikes, you must have completed without difficulty a YMCA of the Rockies (Hikemaster-lead) hike of no more than two grades lower within two weeks before the hike. This means a C hike is the prerequisite for an A hike*; a D hike is a prerequisite for B hike; an E hike is a prerequisite for a C hike, and an F hike meets the requirements for D Hike.
Hikes graded A-D must have three guests, and hikes graded E-H must have two guests to go. This is for safety reasons. Hikes will be canceled if too few guests sign up.
A variety of circumstances may change the schedule of this hike. It is imperative that all hikers check in at the Mountain Center hiking desk (Base Camp) no later than 5 pm the day before the hike. Please bring your Y lodge room number or cabin name at that time.
