The course begins in beautiful Deep Lake, known for it's clear cool water - water temp expected in the low 70's. The bike course travels along the base of the Cascade foothills with a surprisingly low overall elevation gain - great for beginners or those looking for a fast fun bike. The bike elevation is much the same - a few small bumps but nothing considered a 'hill'. The relatively flat Half Iron run course is mainly on the paved shoulders of nearby roads. All races include 2 1.4-mile laps around Lake Nolte which on a hard-packed gravel trail. No trail shoes necessary.
Half Iron Details: There are 3 bike course aid stations with water, sports drink, gels & bars. Run course aid stations are about one every 1.5 miles with water, sports drink, and gels.
Nolte State park in Enumclaw is a beautiful, rural, family-friendly park that families can enjoy during the day with a swim beach, kids play area, and generous picnic area as their athletes come and go through transition. After the race, everyone can enjoy a full meal, finishers medal, and an awards celebration that awards the top 3 overall men and women in each race, and the top-3 finishers of each age group and relay.
