Description

The famous contemporary graffiti artist, Banksy, made headlines in October when one of his paintings sold at auction at Sothebys for $1.4 million and then immediately shredded. The Whitney Museum of American Art opened a new Warhol survey to showcase aspects of his Business Art project. Recently HBO showcase the documentary ?The Price of Everything? about the money fueling the contemporary art scene. When the spotlight is on the dollar signs next to the art instead of the art itself, what happens to the quality of the art? This course will explore the factors that led to this condition in the current art market and aspects that might re-direct the art market in the future. We?ll take a look at several financially successful artists and we?ll discuss the true value of art. Info: Danielle Bassett, 410-313-4634 or dbassett@howardcountymd.gov.
