Each year, more than 1 in 4 adults aged 65 and older have a fall. Falls are the number one cause of injury and death among older adults. We created the Falls-Free Zone curriculum to provide comprehensive information to help prevent falls. Each module provides key information on a contributing factor and an interactive opportunity for prevention.
Apr. 14: Intro & Exercises with Steph Lewis & Aaron Selmek, SourcePoint Wellness Specialists. This module consists of an Introduction to Falls Prevention followed by demonstrations of helpful exercises for preventing falls. The interactive demonstrations may extend past the hour, and you are welcome to stay or leave.
Apr. 21: Home Hazards with Bryan of J&J Mobility. This module speaks on Hazards in the Home that can lead to Falls, followed by free walker and wheelchair tune-ups. May extend past the hour.
Apr. 28: Vision with Allison & Marsha, trained in vision screening. This module provides an overview on Vision Health and how poor vision can increase the risk of falls, followed by free vision screenings. May extend past the hour.
May 5: Hearing with Erin Tarney of Delaware Speech and Hearing Center. This module outlines Hearing Health and how issues with hearing can increase the risk of falls, followed by free hearing screenings. May extend past the hour.
May 19: Medication Management. This module supports the importance of managing medications and discusses how medications can interact poorly with another to increase the risk of fall. Following the discussion, medication reviews will be conducted. May extend past the hour.
May 26: Community Safety & Action Planning. T his module focuses on maintaining safety in the community and the importance of planning in advance to decrease the risk of falls outside of the home. Following the presentation, you may participate in free balance screening with the BioSway. May extend past the hour.
